History made: NYC tenants, advocates, & allies made history on Sunday as the Administration announced its commitment to passing legislation that guarantees a universal #RightToCounsel for low-income tenants facing eviction in housing court. [Photo courtesy of Right To Counsel NYC]
Yesterday, tenant groups across the city won an epic victory for tenant rights: Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viveritto announced they will pass legislation giving every low-income NYC tenant the right to a lawyer in housing court eviction cases!

This campaign, years in the making, was spearheaded by CASA (our allies in the Bronx) and supported by tenant groups across the city — check out this campaign video featuring some of our very own Coalition leaders!

This victory is a true testament to the power of the people, proof of what we can accomplish together!

This victory is also a tremendous opportunity for us to ramp up our own Brooklyn Tenants United Housing Court campaign, especially our demand for the court to enforce repairs.

Our leaders know better than anyone how hard it is to get the court to enforce consequences for landlords who refuse to fix apartments, even when tenants have lawyers.

Let’s use the momentum of this victory to build with new allies and change the way repairs enforcement works in housing court!
