Every year, the Rent Guidelines Board (RGB) decides how much rents will go up for rent regulated tenants in NYC. The RGB is made up of 9 members, all chosen by the Mayor. One of our Coalition leaders, Ruth Riddick, recently investigated the RGB’s recommendations for rent hikes this year. Here is her update and call for action:
Last week the RGB voted on the new rent renewal increases: up to 6% for one-year leases and up to 9% for two-year leases. At a hearing on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 5:30 PM the RGB will adopt final rent guidelines. The hearing is at the Great Hall at Cooper Union, 7 East 7th Street at corner of 3rd Avenue (basement), New York, NY 10003.. Apartment renewal leases and loft increase periods during the period of October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2014 and rent stabilized hotel units will be affected. We must attend the hearing and call the mayors office to oppose and stop this action. The current increases are too high!!! Call the mayor NOW and tell him to stop the rent hikes: (212) 788-3000
